The challenge
What it was like before
The whole operation lived across several Excel templates. The problem showed up with every price increase, which in practice is all the time: the ingredient price had to be updated and then, recipe by recipe, the total cost of every one that used it recalculated. With nearly 200 ingredients and more than 50 recipes, a single increase took around an hour of manual work, and until that update was finished the cost being used to sell was still the old one.

- Recalculating the total cost of the affected recipes took around an hour.
The solution
What we built
We built the management system where ingredients, suppliers and recipes live in one place and are connected to each other. An ingredient price is entered once: the system propagates the change to every recipe containing it and recalculates the cost of each one. What used to be walking through spreadsheets by hand became one edit and an automatic recalculation.

What changed
Applying a price increase went from around an hour to about 5 minutes. The system is in daily use today with more than 50 recipes, more than 20 suppliers and nearly 200 ingredients loaded.
